Art of Being Happy

We are all searching for happiness—peace of mind, peace of heart, and a deeper sense of joy in our lives. The question is not simply how to succeed, but how to live well every minute, every day.
For more than four decades, Richard Ryan has been a global leader in motivational psychology. His Self-Determination Theory, co-developed with Edward Deci, offers a powerful, research-based framework for optimal functioning and well-being. At its core are three essential psychological needs: autonomy (the freedom to choose and act with authenticity), competence (the ability to grow and feel effective), and relatedness (the experience of meaningful connection). When these needs are nurtured, we thrive and experience a healthy sense of well-being; when they are thwarted, we may experience ill-being.
As my dissertation advisor and mentor at the University of Rochester, where I earned my PhD in developmental psychology, Professor Richard Ryan profoundly shaped both my academic formation and professional direction. Guided by his scholarship and mentorship, I integrate these evidence-based principles into my life coaching practice, translating rigorous psychological science into meaningful, transformative growth for my clients.
I invite you to join me on a journey toward clarity, growth, and joy—where you reconnect with yourself, strengthen your inner resources, and create a life aligned with who you truly are.

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly;
what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

Testimonies
A.R.:

“The attentiveness and wisdom of Dr. Novac were remarkable and very motivating for me as a student. She was timely in her responses to queries and submissions, and very clear and helpful in guiding us through the navigation of the course content. Dr. Novac provided us not only with broad exposure to relevant sources but also clearly helped us develop a “big picture” understanding of how these materials fit together and relate to professional counselors. Evidence of her wisdom was especially noticeable in the way she responded to queries and submissions. Her ability to explain a broad array of concepts in terms that were well attuned to the students’ capacities, understanding, and interests was impressive. Not only is she intellectually well prepared to teach this class, but her ability to supplement that understanding with an ethical, personal, and kind framework also felt very wise. ”
